Match report Having won 6 of their last 7 games, Worly welcomed Melton to Bedfield for the final game of the season. After the hot, dry weather of August both teams arrived in drizzle after heavy rain during the week. Dan won the toss and continued his line of putting runs on the board by electing to bat. Despite its appearance, the wicket had obviously been affected by the week's rain taking all the pace out of the ball. This allied to the wet, slow outfield meant scoring was difficult throughout the Worly innings with only 5 fours and a six. In truth, it was a disappointing performance with a number of the batsmen out trying to attack the bad balls. Rob, David, Percy and Harry W all made starts but were unable to push on and the side was bowled out with more than 7 overs remaining (match reduced to 40 overs due to the threat of further showers). In response, Melton also started cautiously but with less than a hundred required the run rate was never going to be an issue. Percy and Harry N caused the openers problems from the start but with a dropped chance and decisions not going their way they were unable to secure the breakthrough. With 30 on the board from the first 12 overs, Dan changed the bowling but this brought a flurry of runs just before drinks which essentially sealed the game. Alfie did manage to pick up a couple of wickets before the end to give Worly one point from the contest. Although the outfield dried during the day, a score of 140 may have troubled Melton and put the openers under more pressure but once Worly failed to reach three figures the wiriting was on the wall. A sad end to a largely encouraging season with strong performances in July and August. The defeat did see Worly drop one place in the final table to finish a respectable 6th.
