Match report Worly welcomed lowly Braintree to Bedfield looking to overturn the early season loss in the reverse fixture. In the dry conditions with the pitch likely to slow as the day progressed, both teams planned to bat first but it was the visiting captain who called correctly. Percy and Harry made quick inroads as the score reached 4 for 2 ; however, the next pair rode their luck somewhat adding 60 for the 3rd wicket - Unfortunately, in the 13th over, John was forced to leave the field with a bruised side after colliding with Gino in the field. The visiting captain generously allowed a sub with John Gammon coming on and taking a catch later in the innings - With some indifferent bounce, the visitors continued to play and miss but had managed to reach 109 for 4 by the 26th over. At this stage, a final total of 160 or so seemed on the cards which would have been challenging given the movement and bounce achieved by all the bowlers on both sides. However, Mark and Alfie took complete charge, bowling a tight line and length with both rewarded with a four wicket haul as Braintree slumped to 120 all out. In response, Sam and DK started positively but having dispatched one pull shot to the boundary, DK skied one attempting to repeat the shot. Unfortunately, Gino fell shortly afterwards to a brilliant catch behind. However, as with the first innings, Worly pulled things round with a mixture of watchful defence and boundary hitting from Sam and Harry. Indeed, it was a surprise when Sam fell for a well made 31 with the score at 63. Rob and Harry saw off the Braintree opener who was proving quite a handful and knocked the ball around off the change bowlers. With 27 runs required, Harry fell trying to increase his scoring rate followed shortly afterwards by Dan but not before he had plundered a quickfire 19. That just left Rob to hit the winning boundary. A relatively straightforward chase in the end. Worly have 2 games left with Kesgrave IIs next week and Melton at home thereafter.
