Match report On a beautiful sunny afternoon, Worly welcomed Sudbourne Hall to Bedfield for the first game of the season. Both sides were impressed by the condition of the ground and all appreciated the significant work of Bill Mugleston and Richard Nesling to produce a superb wicket and outfield so early in the season. Before the game both teams stood together to hold a minute's silence for Alan Burt, a hugely respected Sudbourne Hall stalwart and a likeable opponent of many years who sadly passed away last month. Dan won the toss and inserted Sudbourne Hall. Percy and Harry opened the bowling and maintained a tight line and length keeping the scoring rate rate below 3 runs an over. Unfortunately the early season catching didn't match the bowling with a number of chances going down as a result of which the score had reached 66 before the first wicket fell to to Dexter's first ball. Four more quickly fell leaving the visitors 88 for 5 after 30 overs. They did rally in the next 10 overs but 2 wickets in 2 balls by Alfie slowed their progress and their final total of 168 was ultimately proved to be well below par on a good wicket. Worly made a brisk start moving to 37 off 6 overs before Rob was brilliantly caught at cover. Sam fell shortly afterwards and Gino made it 3 wickets when he was bowled having looked in good touch. With just under 100 runs still required, John and Harry W consolidated the situation with John working the ball to all parts while Harry mixed watchful defence with some lusty blows. The pair then took complete control of the game and it was a surprise when Harry fell with 20 runs required just 4 runs short of a well deserved 50. Soon after, John brought up his own 50 having judged progress of the game perfectly. He had been joined by Alfie who brought the game to an end with a couple of boundaries. A welcome 6 wicket win to start the season with only the catching needing a little work!
