Kesgrave 2nd v Worlingworth Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 03 Sep 2022 at 12.30
Worlingworth Cricket Club Won by 3 runs

Match report Worly travelled to Kesgrave on another hot day for the final away day of the season. With a hard pitch and parched outfield, Dan had no doubt in electing to bat on winning the toss. At this point nobody could have predicted the roller coaster game that was to follow. Kesgrave took early control with Sam, David and Harry D quickly departing, all for 0. However, Rob aided by initially John then Percy started to turn the game in Worly's favour. Unfortunately, Rob was out to a dubious full toss and Percy soon followed leaving the score at 90 for 6 at the half way stage with Worly in danger of posting an under par score. Dan had other ideas and set about the bowling, seemingly hitting the ball to the boundary at will. DK fell for 15 after a partnership of 53 but Dan continued to attack the bowling. However, like Rob, Dan was out having just reached his half century with 50 of his 52 runs coming in boundaries. Harry N and Mark soon followed. A score of 164 was no more than par given the fast outfield but the match was again tilted in Worly's favour when Percy and Harry quickly accounted for both openers. Sadly further wickets didn't follow and the host's Nos 3 and 4 seemed to be taking the game away from Worly when Sam took a well judged boundary catch to break the partnership. Mark and Alfie then exerted real pressure on the Kesgrave middle order using the conditions to their advantage. 85 for 2 soon became 126 for 8 with the winning post surely in sight for Worly. However, Kesgrave still had their No 4 at the crease and he found a willing partner in the No 10. Despite Alfie and Mark's best efforts they chipped away at the runs required. Indeed, they were on top having added 33 with only 6 runs required when Dan was forced to switch the bowling as both Alfie and Mark had finished their allocation of overs. Sam bowled a tight over leaving Percy to return at the other end with only 4 required. The young man held his nerve brilliantly taking a tumbling caught and bowled to remove the No 4 with his first ball then cleaning up the No 11 four balls later to give Worly a 3-run win and 20 points. Melton visit Bedfield next week for the final game of the season.
