Sudbury III v Worlingworth Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 20 Aug 2022 at 12.30
Worlingworth Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
Worly travelled to Sudbury on a sunny afternoon expecting to continue the recent run of good results, particularly as a struggling Sudbury III side were firmly rooted to the bottom of the table. Dan called incorrectly at the toss and the host's captain elected to bat. The weakness of the Sudbury line-up became immediately apparent when, with the exception of the odd attacking shot, the openers seemed set on survival against an excellent opening burst from Dale and Percy. The breakthrough eventually came with David taking a smart catch in the gully off Percy's bowling. The following batsmen were unable to cope with the speed of Harry or the accuracy of Alfie and it was no surprise when wickets continued to fall with the final one at 88. Harry finished with a deserved 5-for but on another day, any of the other 3 bowlers could have matched his haul. In truth, the target could have been 20-30 runs lower had the Worly fielding been on point. That said, the run chase was expected to be straight forward, given the strength and depth of the Worly line-up and so it proved. The target was reached in less than 14 overs with the host's youthful struggling to find any consistency. The only surprise was that Worly lost 4 wickets in knocking off the runs. With only 3 games remaining, Worly welcome Braintree IIs to Bedfield next week hoping to continue the run of results that has seen, in July and August, 5 wins with the only 2 losses being to the runaway top 2 sides in the League.
