Match report A difficult week for Dan P with a number of regulars unavailable; however, Steve, Tamsin, Geoff and Dan W stepped forward to enable Worly to travel with 11. The game started with Dan P losing the toss with the hosts electing to bat. Harry N and Sam opened the bowling and soon had Braintree 25 for 2 after 7 overs. However, that was as good as it got for Worly as a scruffy display in the field with dropped catches, overthrows and extras enabled the hosts to tick along at over 6 an over. Wickets did fall but they didn’t seem to slow Braintree’s progress on a good pitch and fast outfield. Late wickets including 2 good catches behind the stumps by Geoff nearly gave Worly full bowling points but the last pair held out to leave 9 wickets down and 255 on the board. The total was above par but mainly due to the performance in the outfield rather than the bowlers who, Mark and Tamsin in particular, kept a good line and length throughout. Sam and Harry N started cautiously in response but just as they were starting to accelerate, with the score at 54, Harry was unfortunately run out. Sam followed shortly after to a brilliant catch in the covers, just 4 runs short of a well deserved half-century. Things went from bad to worse with Steve and Geoff missing out to leave Worly 81 for 4. However, calm was restored with Harry D and Dan P taking control of the Braintree change bowlers and it was a surprise when Dan fell for a well made 43 after a stand of 97 in 14 overs. This left 78 runs required from the final 7 overs which was to prove too much but Harry, ably supported by Tamsin, took the score passed 200 and a fifth batting point. Harry managed two boundaries in the final over but finished just short of a maiden century, a fantastic innings nonetheless.
