Worlingworth Cricket Club 1st XI v Sudbury III on Sat 04 Jun 2022 at 13.00
Worlingworth Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
Having won the last 2 games Worly were in high spirits to welcome an understrength Sudbury 3rd XI to Bedfield on a fine day with the ground again looking in splendid condition. Surprisingly the visitors elected to bat having won the toss and were soon in difficulty losing their first wicket to Sam in the first over. Despite excellent opening spells from Sam and Percy, Sudbury were able to reach 60 for 3 by the end of 15 overs. However, with further wickets falling to Sam, the visitors changed their approach from attack to solid defence trying to eek out the overs against Mark and Alfie who were causing problems for all the batsmen. The change of approach did allow Sudbury to extend the innings but more in terms of overs rather than runs and the final wicket fell to a smart catch from Alfie with 6 overs remaining. Given Sudbury’s youthful attack, Dan shook up the batting order, Harry D opening with John followed by Ed then Arthur. John struck 3 fours through the covers before being bowled trying to force through the leg side. A watchful Harry was LBW shortly afterwards with Arthur joining Ed at the crease. Ed was able to score at leisure and sent anything wide or short to the boundary. He was very ably supported by Arthur who sent a couple of short balls to the boundary himself. Worly cruised to the target with Ed hitting 2 boundaries and a six in the 25th over to take the team to victory passing 50 in the process.
