Match report Worly travelled to Earl Stonham on a cool, cloudy afternoon. Dan again won the toss and inserted the hosts. Simon and Harry N started well, quickly coming to terms with the slope across the wicket; however, while the bowling matched last week’s performance, unfortunately, the fielding didn’t with catches going down. At drinks Earl Stonham were well placed at 75 for 2 with the 3rd wicket not falling until the score reached 106 in the 30th over. At that stage, just as Stonham needed to accelerate, Mark and Sam B took control of the innings keeping the scoring to singles with the odd boundary. They shared 7 wickets and the hosts staggered to 164 for 9 at the end of the 45 overs. Following an excellent tea, the restart was delayed by a 15-min shower which seemed to liven the wicket but did mean the bowlers had to cope with a wet ball. Worly started poorly losing Harry N in the first over. John then fell just as he was starting to come to grips with the moving ball. Eric and Harry W followed quickly and after 11 overs Worly were struggling at 41 for 4. Sam B and a hobbling Rob rode their luck initially against some excellent bowling; however, the 1st change bowlers could not keep the pressure on and by drinks the score had risen to 81 with no further losses. Unfortunately Sam, after a gutsy 32, was caught and bowled with 90 on the board with 75 still required. With the fall of the fifth wicket the game was very much in the balance. However, with Rob holding up one end, Dan started very positively taking on the bowlers and their defensive fields. Dan’s aggression quickly swung the game in Worly’s favour and the home heads started to drop to a point where Dan and Rob were able to easily reach the target with more than 7 overs remaining with both batsmen just short of 50. Another great win after beating high flying Bardwell last week.
