Worlingworth Cricket Club 1st XI v Bardwell on Sat 21 May 2022 at 13.00
Worlingworth Cricket Club Won by 4 runs

Match report After Worly's concession to Bury 3s last week, they welcomed the Division 6 table-toppers, Bardwell, to Bedfield. Despite the overnight rain, conditions were fine and Dan had no hesitation in electing to bat on winning the toss. However, Worly did not have it their own way against some accurate bowling with Rob and Sam soon back in the pavilion. This brought Ed to the wicket and he proved to be the linchpin of the innings, skillfully picking up runs in an excellent 85, while Gino, Dan and Harry N provided the brutality at the other end in partnerships of 41, 47 and 44 respectively. A late flurry from Simon saw Worly passed 200 and potentially 5 batting points. Overall, 207 was above par, especially pleasing after the score was only 80 when the 6th wicket fell. Also, a slow outfield after the recent rain meant runs would not be as easy to collect as normal at Bedfield. However, the target of 208 soon appeared to be well within Bardwell's reach as they ticked along at the required rate with no wickets down. A couple of half chances went down and the openers seemed to score at will. Spirits were starting to flag but 2 balls before drinks a first wicket was finally taken with 93 on the board. The other opener soon fell and all of a sudden Worly sensed a glimmer of hope and so it proved. Fantastic bowling from Sam and Mark, aided by some excellent catching by Gino, Dan, Sam and Mark, saw the visitors pegged back to such an extent that they limped passed 150 having lost 7 wickets. However, Bardwell stayed in the game with some sensible batting and running between the wickets, keeping the rate around a run a ball. A tight finish was in prospect as the game entered the final 3 overs with 15 runs required and 2 wickets in hand, similar to the Woodbridge game from earlier in the month where Worly lost by 3 runs. This time Worly were not to be denied with Harry N and Simon both holding their nerve as the pressure increased, Simon showing his experience to take the final 2 wickets in the last over with Bardwell only 5 short of their target. An entertaining game which could easily have been lost but Ed's innings and some brilliant catches proved vital as it went Worly's way.
