Match report After a great start to the season last week, Worly made a first visit to Chappel & Wakes Colne on a windy, chilly afternoon hoping to improve on the recent record at Essex grounds - no points since Jun 2019. With a short boundary on one side plus a good paced wicket and fast outfield, a high scoring game was in prospect and so it proved. Dan P lost the toss and the Chappel captain had no hesitation in batting. The strong wind made it difficult for all the bowlers and with the score approaching 170 in less than 30 overs for only one wicket another pointless Essex away day was on the cards. A couple of dropped catches didn't help the cause along with several plays and misses, particularly off Harry, but the bowlers kept going and were ultimately rewarded. Dan W claimed 2 wickets in 2 balls but unfortunately missed the hat trick. Arthur claimed the 7th wicket but the hosts played out the final few overs without further loss to leave Worly with 3 bowling points at the halfway stage but chasing 315 to win. Worly started cautiously in the face of some brisk aggressive bowling. Indeed, by drinks, Worly had only reached 75 for 3 with Rob, Sam and Harry W all bowled. However, this brought the 2 Moores to the wicket and they were to dominate the host's bowling for the next 20 overs. Both passed 50 with a series of cracking boundaries off the front and back foot. It was a surprise, just before the end, when John was taken off a skier for an excellent 75 but Percy continued on his merry way and remained 84 not out from 61 balls at the end. A remarkable innings which saw the total through 200 for a 5th batting which, despite conceding over 300, allowed Worly to leave with heads held high and 8 points in the bag.
