Mildenhall IV v Worlingworth Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 21 Aug 2021 at 1230 pm
Worlingworth Cricket Club Lost by 43 runs

Match report The final away game of the season saw Worly travel to Mildenhall with an afternoon of rain forecast. With Dan away, Rob skippered the side and continued the trend of losing the toss with Mildenhall deciding to bat in the damp conditions with the game reduced to 35 overs per side. The Worly bowlers started well restricting the hosts to 21 from 8 overs before the first break for rain. This was to be the first of 3 breaks in the Mildenhall innings with the bowlers having to contend with the drizzle and a wet ball in between. The bowlers' cause was not helped by the loss of DK behind the stumps at the midpoint, having taken one on the end of his left thumb, with Rob deputising. The innings was also marked by some interesting interpretations of the wide rule, one call made just before the batsman hit the ball to the boundary! Gino took 2 very good catches in the deep as he was peppered on the boundary; however, elsewhere a couple of catches went down as the home batsmen threw everything at the Worly attack in an attempt to reach the 5-pt batting mark of 180. As it turned out, they reached this target with 4 overs to spare and eventually went on to an above par 212, in an innings that took just under 4 hours to complete. Despite the forecast, conditions improved in the latter part of the afternoon with an overcast sky but no rain. The Worly innings started, as last week, with 2 early wickets; however, Rob attacked the Mildenhall bowlers and, with support from Gino, Percy and Harry, took the score to 148 approaching the end of the 24th over. At this point, the introduction of the host's 6th bowler turned the game back in their favour as he claimed 4 for 16 and effectively finished the game. There was time for an injured DK to support Rob through to his century but DK fell shortly afterwards with Worly still 43 runs short and 6 of 35 overs unused. A good game in poor conditions, particularly for the Worly bowlers; however, a disappointing loss given Worly were ahead of the rate for much of their innings but wickets at vital times proved crucial. Back to Bedfield next week with Yoxford providing the final opponents of the season.
