Match report
Another 'point less' trip to Colchester! On a beautiful, sunny afternoon, Dan won the toss and made the bold decision of trying to put pressure on the league leaders by batting first. However, after a few balls, it was obvious that this plan may backfire as a seemingly dry wicket presented indifferent pace and variable bounce- probably unsurprising given the previous 6 weeks weather. That said, the collapse that followed could not solely be put down to the wicket. Both openers were given out LBW down the track and the following batsmen were either caught skying a cross batted shot or caught close in prodding a ball that stopped. Indeed Dale was the only one to count himself unlucky as he was caught one-handed in the covers off a full blooded drive. To be fair, West Bergholt bowlers exploited the conditions perfectly bowling a consistent line and length with nothing short or legside. When it came to the hosts turn to bat, Rodders and Sam tried their hardest to make early inroads but with such a small total to defend this was always likely to be a difficult task. An early wicket was taken but Worly lacked the West Bergholt consistency with off line balls dispatched to the boundary. However, Worly kept plugging away but when 2 late chances were created, both went down, the second of which ran away for 4 and proved to be the winning runs. A rather apt finish to a disappointing performance from Worly. Braintree at home next week with the side hopefully bouncing back as it did after the Abberton defeat last month.
