Match report With Rodders away, Eric was in charge and duly lost the toss with the hosts electing to bat. Despite all the midweek rain, the wicket and outfield looked in excellent condition on a fine sunny day; however, the wicket proved to be very slow and low. This made starting difficult and it was incumbent on the 'in' batsmen to score heavily. With Rodders and Dan absent, the 2 Harrys opened the bowling and after their opening burst had reduced West Bergholt to 49 for 3. However, the host's Nos 3 and 5 dug in and then started to accelerate the scoring rate. Their partnership of 122 in 22 overs ultimately proved crucial and enabled Bergholt to post an above par score of 229 despite a late flurry of wickets, including 3 run outs. In response, Graham and Rob found the going difficult against some accurate bowling and only a few lusty blows from Graham kept the scoreboard ticking. Similar to the first innings, Worly found themselves 54 for 3 needing a partnership. Matt had joined Ed and both took the attack to the bowlers. However, just as Worly were starting to believe a win was likely, Matt fell for a well made 29 after a partnership of 57. David continued the attack but when Ed fell for an excellent 48 at 148, the game was all but up with only Harry W's 2nd ball six providing any cheer for Worly - the final 5 wickets only adding a further 13. The host's 5th bowler was instrumental in taking the game away from Worly with a mixture of deliveries that stopped or skidded through, hitting the stumps for 4 of his 5 victims. Another disappointing defeat chasing; however, in the end, Worly were well beaten with Bergholt providing the two main moments (122 partnership and 5 for 20). On a positive note, Harry N showed some genuine pace and came back strongly to take a 3rd wicket while Ed's batting always threatened to keep Worly in the game.
