Worlingworth Cricket Club Won by 9 wkts
Match report
After last week's glorious weather, Worly were greeted with Storm Hannah in Essex for the first game of the season. Fortunately the rain was limited to sporadic outbreaks of drizzle but the 40 mph southerly wind was relentless and the captains agreed to reduce the overs to 40 a side. A new season but some things never change with Rodders losing the toss and the hosts electing to bat. However, all Worly's bowlers made light of the conditions and Kelvedon never really looked like setting a formidable target, rarely passing 3 runs an over. Rodders was particularly economical which allied to 4 excellent catches behind the wicket by Eric and Ed left him with final figures of 5 for 15 - a early contender for the bowling award! Despite the weather and indifferent bounce, a target of 125 seemed well within Worly's grasp. However, Graham fell at the start of the 4th over with the score at 9. Ed joined Rob and the score steadily ticked along, reaching 86 after 16 overs at which point Ed took complete control of the Kelvedon bowlers. He passed 50 before finishing the game with a 4 and, next ball, a huge 6. Overall a strong start to the season for Worly with only a few misses in the deep preventing a 20 point haul - not surprising though given the cold and strong winds. Worly return to Essex next week with a first visit to Frinton.
