Worlingworth Cricket Club Won by 10 runs
Match report
A close, exciting game where Worly threatened to pull defeat from the jaws of victory but some excellent death bowling from Mark and Rodders saw us home. After heavy overnight rain, the outfield was wet and the wicket, despite being covered, was damp in places so an important toss to win. In line with recent games, Rodders lost the toss and Worly were inserted. Some accurate Sudbourne bowling restricted Worly's start with the first 3 batsmen falling cheaply. John and Steve upped the rate but when John fell at 75 for 4 off 25 overs a modest total looked on the cards; however, Matt in partnership with Mark and Rodders mixed some lusty blows with excellent running between the wickets. A total of 183 was above par and Worly were confident of an 8th win of the season and that feeling was further enhanced when the hosts lost 3 early wickets to Rodders in reply. However, Scarce and Morgan, slowly at first, then with increasing confidence, started to accelerate the scoring; however, just as it looked as though they would take the game away from Worly, Morgan fell to a catch in the deep by Matt. With the rate at 8 an over the next pair kept the momentum going and it was only when Rodders returned that the rate finally started to rise and 15 off the final over looked unlikely, particularly as Scarce had fallen to the last ball of the 44th over, and so it proved.
