Worlingworth Cricket Club 1st XI v Great Bromley on Sat 05 May 2018 at 1.00pm
Worlingworth Cricket Club Won by 2 wkts
Match report
After the washout at Easton last week, the teams were greeted by clear blue skies for the first home game of the season. Bromley lost the toss and Rodders opted to insert the visitors. After a wicket second ball of the innings, Bromley steadily collected their runs to reach 66 for 2 after 18 overs; however, accurate bowling from Dan and Mark was slowing the scoring rate and wickets started to fall leaving Bromley 81 for 7 with 12 overs remaining. However, the 2 youngsters at 7 and 9 started to apply pressure on the field, scrambling ones and twos. They rode their luck at times but deservedly carried their bats to the end. Although not as low a target as anticipated 130 on a good track should have presented no problems. Worly made a steady start before Rob upped the scoring rate to see Worly well placed at 73 for 1 after 20 overs. However, having put on 65 and seemingly cruising to victory, Steve and Rob went in quick succession and when the 6th wicket went at 104 nerves were jangling. Runs were proving hard to find but positive batting, led by Mark, in the last 5 overs saw Worly scramble over the line by 2 wkts with 8 balls remaining. Bury III are the visitors to Bedfield next week.
