Mildenhall IV v Worlingworth Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 18 Jun 2016 at 13:00
Worlingworth Cricket Club Lost by 7 wkts
Match report
On a day when several regulars were missing, Worly needed the luck to go their way; however, the cricketing gods were obviously at the Euros. After a week of heavy rain, many games had been cancelled but Mildenhall had missed the morning rain. In murky conditions with persistent drizzle , Graham lost the toss and Worly were asked to bat. The start of the innings was largely uneventful with the score moving on to 32 before Sam was caught in the deep. Rob and Ed consolidated taking the score passed 70. Unfortunately, Rob nicked one behind and from there wickets fell regularly with only Ed (37)keeping the scoreboard moving. With the overs reduced to 39 due to the threat of rain, Worly finally finished their allocation on 140 for 8. Mildenhall's innings started in similar fashion to Worly albeit in brighter conditions. Indeed, like Worly, after an eventful start, the home side lost their first wicket at 32 followed next ball by a second, both to Sam. Unfortunately this brought Mildenhall MoM to the wicket, a young man who is obviously more used to the higher leagues. Sam bowled well to keep him quiet initially; however, he soon took control of the game hitting 10 fours and 3 sixes to finish the game with over 13 overs to spare. Jack claimed a third wicket just before the end, thanks to a catch by Steve in the deep. However, a return of one bowling point and 2 batting points would see Worly relinquish their place at the top of the league.
