Match report After a week of heavy rain, it was no surprise that the wicket and outfield was wet but, with a forecast of sunshine for later part of afternoon, the game went ahead. Terry lost the toss and was invited to bat; however, as it turned out a good toss to lose. The heavy rolling had compacted the wicket and the ball came on to the bat. Dom and Rob rode their luck initially but moved onto 84 without further alarms before Dom fell for 55 in the 16th over. The wicket had started to dry out which made conditions difficult for the incoming batsmen with Ed and Eric falling to edges behind. However, Rob and Sam saw off the Sudbury opening bowler and soon regained the initiative to take the score passed 200 before Sam went for 37 followed shortly by Rob 3 short of his century. Terry kept the score ticking along while losing partners at the other end until joined by Dan who hit the final ball for 6 to allow Worly to close the 45 overs on 248.
The Sudbury reply started slowly with Toby picking up the 1st wicket in his 1st over; however, despite Sam's tight bowling at one end, boundaries flowed at the other with Sudbury's opener racing to 60 ably supported by the No3. As drinks approached, Sudbury were racing along at 6 an over, ahead of the rate until 3 wickets from Dan, Eric and Ed in quick succession slowed the run chase to a crawl. From a point where the game was in the balance the final 20 overs would see Sudbury trying to collect batting points and Worly wickets. Eric took 3 more wickets with a mix of flight and guile! before Toby finished the innings with a simple return catch off his own bowling.
Another 20 pts keeping Worly at the top of the league before the visit to Tendring next week. Well done to Bill, the groundsman, for getting the game on after some horrendous weather during the week.
