Worlingworth Cricket Club 2nd XI v Castle on Sun 01 May 2016 at 13:30
Worlingworth Cricket Club Won by 12 runs
Match report
A valiant effort from Billy to get the game on following the inclement early season weather - however the ground conditions ensured the pitch was low and slow (did I say low?) and the going on the outfield was soft to heavy. After being inserted it was Back to the Future as Eric and Graham got the nod from Mark to open the batting. With little value from any shots played it was a mixture of the classical and agricultural that saw an opening partnership of 131 posted. Given that everything had to be "run" it was touch and go whether the paramedics would be needed! After Eric managed to pick out a willing catcher at mid-off it was new boy Ed's turn to shepherd Graham to the tea interval, which he did with some welcome gusto. Special mention to Terry for sitting with his pads on for 40 overs :-)
In reply, Castle's redoubtable top order batting soon succumbed to a blistering opening spell from Dan. With Mark following up with his usual haul of wickets the game was seemingly in the bag until a Worly mix of dropped catches and an increasing wide count conspired to give the Castle lower order batsmen a sniff at the target. However, with 19 needed off the last over from Mark any comparisons with England's T20 debacle soon subsided as a good over saw Castle grab the last batting point and Worly run out winners by 12 runs.
So a winning start for the 2nds and onwards to the Nacton Stadium in a fortnight's time in the search to reclaim Section A status.
