Melton v Worlingworth Cricket Club U11s on Thu 16 May 2013 at 18:00
Worlingworth Cricket Club Lost

Match report It was the U11's first match of the season, and for many players the first time using a hard ball. Melton won the toss and elected to field first.

Josh and Seb made a very good start with Josh finding the boundary 4 times with excellent support from Seb.

Luke and Matty were the next pair in and started really well with some quick singles. Matty was then bowled but immediately made amends with a brilliant 4 when facing the next ball. Some mis-communication in the last over for this pair resulted in two run outs.

Next in were Zac and Laura. A steady start with both players getting their eye in. A great piece of bowling saw a loss of wicket for Zac, but he quickly recovered with three boundaries, including an excellent square cut - the best shot of the match. Laura held her nerve and defended her wicket for all 4 overs and sneaked a quick single.

The final pair of Ollie and Joe took to the field and did a great job of defending some good bowling. With both players hitting boundaries and only one loss of wicket for Ollie this was a positive end to the innings.

In reply, Melton's opening pair quickly got their score rolling with good running between the stumps and several boundaries.

The next 3 overs saw some excellent fielding resulting in 2 run-outs for Joe and Ollie and an excellent stumping by Zac from Laura's delivery.

The next pair were held to a few runs with excellent, accurate bowling from Luke and a maiden over from Ollie.

With our bowlers tiring (and getting cold) Melton's final pair finished strongly, finding the boundary with any wayward delivery.

Final score Melton 305 Worlingworth 226.

Conditions: Cold with slight breeze.
Performance of the Day: Zac Brady for excellent keeping all innings and good solid batting, including that memorable square cut.

Manager/Coaches's Comments: With such a young team I was very pleased with our attitude and in particularly the encouragement given to each other. For many of the players this was there first match at this level (hard ball) and therefore playing with pads, helmets and gloves. I thought our fielding was excellent today, but must always remember to back up when the ball is thrown in. We will work on our bowling in training, to improve the accuracy as we gave away many extras with several wides. Overall a good all-round performance with positive attitude in difficult conditions and a new experience for many.

Well done!
Kevin

PS I will endeavour to complete the stats over the weekend.
