WCC MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE UPDATE - 8 MAY 2020
Much of the recent activity since the lockdown has fallen on Graham’s shoulders and he has made steady progress on securing the financial future of the Club with no cricket income. However, despite that work, we still currently project a shortfall, The latest update is as follows:
Revised Budget 2020
- Essential Expenditure
Insurance £ 3000 (2019 figure)
Electric / water / sewage £ 1000 (2019 figure)
Ground Maintenance+ £ 2500 (2019 figure)
Pavilion++ £ 500 (from 1500 in 2019)
Misc (bank, website, balls, league fees, etc) £ circa 500 (from 1500 in 2019)
Total £ 7500
+ Including Autumn preparation for 2021 season.
++ Restricted expenditure – Fire checks, bar licence, Binders.
- Estimated Income (assuming no cricket )
Sport England Covid Special Grant £ 3800
100 club £ 1400
Total £ 5200
- Current Shortfall £ 2300
We should not forget that the figures above do not include the repayment of the loans or rent. Thanks again to our benefactors for their understanding and deferment of our 2020 payments.
Insurance Claim
The insurance claim for the damage to the mobile nets has been received and will be used in the short-term to ease the negative cash flow while there is no cricket; however, the £1800 will obviously need to be used to buy replacement nets once cricket restarts.
On-Going Activity
An application has been lodged with Mid Suffolk District Council to receive funds under their Business Rates – Grant funding scheme. Although we do not pay rates, we have been registered in the past and we have been encouraged by Matthew Hicks, leader of Suffolk County Council, to submit an application which Graham completed on 6 May for up to £10,000. We can expect an answer by the end of May; however, any grant may require the repayment of some, or all, of the Sport England emergency fund. Also, the interim response from the Council suggests that there is a technical issue which may prevent us from being successful.
Obviously the 100 Club remains one of our key income streams and new members are still required while we look at other funding streams such as crowdfunding and www.easyfunding.co.uk.
Future Activity
Obviously the future is uncertain and it is questionable whether or not we will see any cricket this season; however, when the restrictions are lifted enough to allow cricket to take place, the main emphasis for the cricket community will be the junior section with any interaction with other clubs likely to be limited. Therefore, it is likely that we will have to generate higher than usual intra-club cricket activity. As a result, it is likely that the senior section of the Club will need to play a greater part than usual with the juniors.
Many thanks to Graham for all his hard work.
Keep safe.
