Halstead III v Worlingworth Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 17 Jun 2017 at 13:00
Worlingworth Cricket Club Won by 6 runs
Match report
On the hottest Saturday of the year, with a flat wicket and fast outfield, a big score was the order of the day; however, having elected to bat, Worly lost Dom in the 7th over and were contained by some tight bowling. As with last week, Terry and Ed prospered against the change bowlers as did Sam but all 3 fell to catches in the deep, leaving David and Matt to scamper 25 off the last 3 overs. Rupert and Sam opened the bowling and restricted the early scoring with the hosts dropping behind the run rate. However, wickets proved to be difficult to find and the rate slowly rose to a point at the second drinks break at 30 overs where the score was 133 for 1 and Rodders was struggling to find options to take wickets or reduce the rate. The solution was Terry who took 2 wickets in 2 balls and for the first time since the early overs beat the bat. A 3rd wicket for Terry evened up the match; however, Worly couldn't remove Bloomfield, the host's opener, as he moved toward his century. With 6 overs remaining Halstead needed 43 with 6 wkts in hand. Bloomfield then hit 10 off 2 balls to take him to a brilliant hundred and eventually leave 10 required to win off the last over. The final twist was the run out of the exhausted centurion at the start of the 45th over with a direct hit from Terry, after which Sam held his nerve to bowl out the remainder of the over for only 2 runs and a 6 run victory.
